Nainital Zoo :
At an altitude of 2100 meters in sprawling open area there is Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo. Now a days it has Monkeys, Himalayan black bear ,Leopard ,Siberian Tiger,Palm civet cat, Wolf, Silver Pheasants, Rose ringed Prakeet, Hill Fox , Ghoral, Barking Deer, Sambhar. The zoo remains closed for visitors on Monday, all national holidays, Holi & Diwali.
Raj Bhawan :
Raj Bhavanwas built by British as residence of Governor of North West Province. Now Raj Bhavan is the official accommodation of Governor (Uttarakhand)..The Governor?s House was built in the line of Buckingham Palace having double storied 113 rooms .For visiting this place prior permission is must.
Naina peak :
Naina peak is the highest peak of the town , at an altitude of 2611 mts. and at a distance of 6 Kms from the town .It commands an entrancing view of sparkling snow laden Himalayas.
Tiffin Top :
Located at a distance of 4 Kms from the town this peak is 2292 mts. above the sea level in Ayarpatta region. Tiffin Top commands an excellent view of the Himalayas as well as the neighboring country side. Dorothy seat a memorial to an English lady painter Dorothy Kellet build by her husband an admirers after her death.
Snow View :
It is the most easily accessible hill top, height 2270 mts. and at a distance of 2.5 Km from the town. The spot is accessible through ropeway . Snow view as the name suggests offers an indescribably beautiful and breath taking picture of the glittering snows of Himalyas.
Naini Lake :
The nucleus of Nainital’s un comparable beauty is beautiful lake. In the day, mirrored in its waters stand seven proud hills, dotted with pretty cottages and villas. More beautiful than this however is the lake at night when the myriads of bulbs from the hill sides and quite a large number hanging near the lake’s edge stab their magic light into its waters.
The lake offers the holiday makers ample opportunity for yachting, boating or paddling the boat. Boating rates in conventional rowing boats ranges from Rs. 80/- to Rs. 120/- from one end of lake to another end. Paddling boats are available on hourly rate from Rs. 80/- to Rs. 120/- depending on type of paddle boat.
Nainital Flats :
A wide level ground is known as Flats, one can see players playing Football, Cricket, Basket Ball at Flats. There is a fountain, band stand, a statue of Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant near Flats, One vehicle parking & tibbetan market is also located near Flats. Nainital excursions cabs are available from here. Boats play in the lake for the visitors and a boat ride is extremely enjoyable.
At the northern side of the lake there is a place of rendezvous for people from all walks of life. Here evenings are heavily crowded.
There is a statue of Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant and a beautiful fountain. There is a band stand. The Flats has playing ground used for sports games and cultural activities during festivals. There is Chat Bazar, Bhotia Market in the flats. In Bhotia Market vendors sell their fancy items. There is Mosque, Gurudwara and Naina Devi temple in flatts. Capitol cinema and Rink theatre which is used for roller skating are also situated in Flatts.
A portion of the flatts is used for car parking. New club, Boat House Club, Masonic Hall are in the periphery of the flatts for recreation.
Naina Devi Temple :
Nainital name has been originated from Naina Devi and Naina Devi temple is situated right on Naini Lake near flats, It is said that eye of goddess Sati(Wife of Lord Shiva) fell here at Nainital thus lake is known as Naini Lake. Tibbetan Shopping market is situated besides Naina Devi Temple.
Tourist Spots : Mukteshwar - Ramgarh :
Mukteshwar is located in Kumaon Hills of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 2286 meters. Its at a distance of 72 km from Nainital, 52 km from Haldwani and 395 km from Delhi. It is a unspoiled tourist destination. Mukteshwar derived its name from an 350-year-old temple dedicated to Shiva, known as Mukteshwar Dham, located at the highest point in the town in IVRI campus. It provides an excellent view of the valleys below. One can catch a magnificent view of sunrise from the government-run PWD Guest House. Apart from the scenic vistas of mountain ranges it provides, Mukteswar is also famous for its beautiful orchards, dense coniferous forests and old colonial bungalows.It is located at a distance of 52 kms from Nainital. Mukteshwar is situated at a high mountain ridge surrounded by fruit orchards and thick coniferous forest. It provides a magical view of the snow clad summits of Himalayas.
Jim Corbett National Park - Ramnagar :
Ramnagar is well-known for being the gateway to Corbett National Park and attracts lot of tourist because of its geographical location. There are number of hotels and resorts in and around Ramnagar. The town was established and settled by Commissioner H. Ramsay in 1856-1884. Its proximity to Nainital, makes it even more popular.
Jim Corbett National Park spread over an area of 1318.54 sq. km. is situated in the foothills of Himalayas mainly in the district of Pauri Garwal and Nainital. " Jim Corbett National Park " contains two protected areas within its precincts, namely Jim Corbett National Park and Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary.
Tourist Spots : Haldwani City :
Haldwani is popularly known as the ‘gateway of kumaon’ sharing its twin township with Kathgodam. Haldwani comes under Nainital district of Uttarakhand state with standing at an average elevation of 425mts above sea level. The dusk and dawn of the Haldwani are pleasant and will make you feel that you are in the lap of nature. The hills of the Kumaon region commence from this picturesque spot and the temperature decreases as you climb. Since beginning Haldwani has been an important trading hub of Kumaon as it is well connected with Delhi, Haridwar, Lucknow and many other places of northern India.
Tourist Spots : Bhimtal - Sattal - Naukuchiya Tal :
According to legend, Bhima became enamored with Hidimbi, a rakshasa. Her brother took offense and engaged Bhima in a battle at this site. Bhima was victorious but was battle weary and wanted to wash himself. On demand, a spring of water spouted out so he could clean himself and so the town of Bhimtal was named. To honor Bhima's exploits, the Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple was built. Bhimtal also houses the palace of the Maharaja of Jind which now serves as an educational establishment. |
